Andi Olsen’s short film Where the Smiling Ends was exhibited recently at the Revolving Museum in Lowell, MA, and the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore, and also screened at the LA International Shorts Festival and Valley Film Festival. Her ongoing installation, Hideous Beauties: A Freak Show, consists of video/DVD, assemblages, and collage-texts that explore the notion of monstrosity. Her art has been exhibited and published around the country and abroad. She has collaborated with her writer-husband Lance Olsen on computer-generated collage-texts, as well as on a video tribute to Kathy Acker. Olsen was born in 1959 and received a B.A. (1982) and an M.A. (1985) in art history from the University of Virginia. She has taught at the University of Idaho, the University of Kentucky, Kentucky State University, Lexington Community College, the University of Virginia, and on summer and semester-abroad programs in Oxford and London, but has turned her attention full-time towards her artwork. She lives with Lance Olsen in the mountains of central Idaho.
